Day 129 Friday 17.06.2011
Location:  Reisemobilpark Treviris, Trier, Germany
Long / Lat  N 49º44.421’ E 6º37.491’
Last night the campsite at Schweich was very noisy, a large group of young Germans partying by the river just in front of the campsite until after 2.00am.
We managed not to over sleep this morning and Paul found someone to unlock the hookup box and unhook our cable. The three day stay cost us 49.50€, we hadn’t realized that the electricity was metered and the 15€ a night only included 5kw a day. But considering that we showered and did all of our washing in the van (the showers cost 1€) we didn’t think it was too bad.

We said goodbye to the guy in the parked next to us in the Airstream, he didn’t take up Paul’s offer to swap motorhomes but he did tell us how much he paid for it and we were shocked, a lot less than we paid for our van.
We popped into Lidl and did a bit of shopping then set off for Trier.
The stellplatz in Trier was easy to find, there’s parking for about 100 vans. Entrance  is through a barrier and you collect a camping card on the way in. You have to use your card when you get water or use the electricity but we’ve not worked it out yet.
Trier is the oldest town in Germany and is a Unesco World Heritage Site and is well worth a visit. We picked up a guide map at the stellplatz and walked the tourist route around the town. It was strange being in such a large bustling town after the small quiet towns further down the Mosel.
There are lots of well preserved Roman monuments, the symbol of the town is the Porta Nigra (Black Gate) built in the second century. There is also an elaborate thermal baths and the brick built Konstantinbasilika which was constructed in AD310 as Constantine’s throne hall. It’s a huge building which is now a protestant church.
If you are interested in history and enjoy wandering around museums then you would need more than a day to do the town justice, (also need to be with someone who doesn’t say things like ‘it’s falling down’ or ‘they should paint it white’).

Location:  Wohnmobilpark Am Fahrturm, Schweich, Mosel Valley, Germany
Long / Lat: N49º 48.889’ E 6º 45.050’
Last day at this site, tomorrow we’re heading for the stellplatz in Trier. This will be out last stop on the Mosel.
The weather hasn’t been so good today, its overcast, raining on and off but still really hot.
We’ve been for a walk into the town between rain showers to check out the driving route to Lidl, we’re planning to pop in and do a bit of shopping on the way to Trier.

Location:  Wohnmobilpark Am Fahrturm, Schweich, Mosel Valley, Germany
Long / Lat: N49º 48.889’ E 6º 45.050’
This morning a couple from the Netherlands in a beautiful Airstream 325 pulled in next to us. It’s an absolutely gorgeous motorhome and Paul got a bit excited.
This morning we caught up with our washing and after lunch we cycled to Lidl, there is a supermarket a short walk from the campsite, the Lidl is a bit further away but it sells cheap beer and wine.
We are going to stay at this site for three night then head for Trier out last stop on the Mosel.

Day 126 Tues 14.06.2011

Location:  Wohnmobilpark Am Fahrturm, Schweich, Mosel Valley, Germany

Long / Lat: N49º 48.889’ E 6º 45.050’
We were both happy to be on the move again, seven days at the last stelplatz was a bit too long.
We are now parked up at a ACSI campsite in Schweich, 15€ a night with the ACSI card. We thought we were heading for a stellplatz but when I checked in the bord atlas it does say it’s a campsite that offers a Quick Stop for motorhomes for 5.50€ (arrive in the evening and leave before 9am).
The site is by the river next to the marina, it’s a bit noisy the road on the opposite bank is busy and we are parked not far from the A48 bridge across the Mosel.
We like the site, there’s lots going on, just after we parked up a sea plane took off on the river in front of the campsite.
We have parked next to a couple from the UK, we spent a very enjoyable evening with them.

Location:  Wohnmobilstellplatz  Zellerhof Mehring, Mosel Valley, Germany

The river is a lot quieter today and a few vans have pulled out of the stellplatz but it’s still almost full.
This afternoon two river cruise boats moored just in front of the stellplatz so we will once again have to put up with the hum of the generators through the night.
This is our last day here, we’re both getting a bit restless so it will be good to move on.

The stellplatz is still very busy, vans squeezed in everywhere. We definitely did the right thing getting parked up for the holiday weekend.
This morning there was a religious parade from the church in the town it stopped off at the little church behind the stellplatz.
The town is decorated with flags and in the centre there are fair ground rides, food, beer and wine stalls.
There’s also a stage set up and there is live music in the evening and last night we heard the fireworks going off in the town.

We had another wild storm last night, torrential rain high winds and thunder. Our electricity went off during the night for the second time, the hookup box is locked so we had to wait until morning to get it switched back on.
It’s been sunny most of the day but the rain returned this evening.
