Location: Nantua Aire, Eastern France

We woke early, Paul fetched bread and croissants from the bakers, they also sell groceries and wine.

As we set off Paul discovered that our rear camera has stopped working in the upright position (rear view mirror), it still works in reverse. I have persuaded him that hitting it with something heavy won’t fix it so we will probably try to get it fixed when we get into Germany.

We were heading for an aire at Les Roches de Condrieu (N 45º27.249’ E004º46.079’) the first park of the journey was on narrow winding mountain roads again but as we got closer to our destination the roads improved.

When we arrived at the aire at about 9.30am and quickly decided that it wasn’t suitable for an overnight stop. It was basically a car park next to a busy road. We decided to push onto the Nantua aire which was about 3 more hours driving.

As we drove towards Valence the roads got better and we travelled on some toll free motorway around Lyon.

We drove back into the mountains for the final bit of our journey but the roads were much better than yesterdays, more amazing views as we wound our way up and down, sheer rock face on one side and a frightening vertical drop on the other.

We stopped at a Super U supermarket about 30km before the aire, did a bit of shopping and filled up with diesel,1.33€ ltr (the most expensive diesel we saw today was 1.43€ ltr). There was also a motorhome service point next to the filling station, co-ordinates N 46º02.430’ E 005º20.520’.

We are now parked up on the aire right next to the lake, wonderful views of the water and the mountains from the cab window.

The aire has a service point and fresh water tap (service point is on the otherside of the road next to public loo’s ), there is a charge for parking here, not sure how much and we think that someone comes to collect the money.
