Day 86 Thursday 05.05.2011
Location: Kaysersberg Aire, Alsace, Eastern France
Long / Lat: N 40º08.186’ E 007º15.726’
This morning we walked around this charming medieval town, narrow cobbled streets and half timbered painted houses, several wooden bridges over the stream that runs through the middle of the town. The buildings here look more Scandinavian or German than French. In the town there are lots of wine caves, restaurants and gift shops, many selling Hansel and Gretel style pottery and handicrafts.
The aire had emptied out a bit by 9am, the charge for parking here is 2€ from 9am to 7pm and 4€ overnight from 7pm to 9am. You have to pay separately at the ticket machine for the night and day parking, (the machine will only produce a 2€ ticket from 9am to 7pm).
There is a service point here and toilets, also a picnic area at the end of the aire with a covered area to sit in the shade.
By 7pm the aire was full but there is large car park next to the aire which is used as an overflow parking area for motorhomes when the aire is full.
This is a loverly aire on the edge of the town with views of the town, wine groves and the mountains. Well worth a visit if you are coming this way.

  1. Message from Charlie to Paul….if the rules say you are to long then it’s your duty to make sure you park correctly, not forgetting to park straight. LOL
